The Best Red Wines to Try this Month

Jan 26, 2021 | Food

Colder temperatures and hearty, seasonal menus leave us craving bold red wines. There’s just something about a well-produced wine that warms the spirit and elevates any experience. The Julington Creek Fish Camp crew might be your resident seafood spot, but we also know a thing or two about fabulous wine. Read on for our go-to guide to the season’s best red wines.

Jammy Cabernet Sauvignon

This household staple always has a place on our list of favorites. Vintages between 2014 and 2017 offer some of the most elaborate flavors. Depending on the Cab, expect notes of black fruits, dark chocolate and white pepper. If you’re unsure how to select a quality bottle, our team of seasoned professionals are always here to help.

Julington Creek’s food and beverage experts hand-select every bottle and glass of wine on our menu. We recommend pairing this glass with rich foods like our Top Sirloin Steak or Blackened Mahi.

Low-Tannin Pinot Noir

Unlike bolder red wine options like Cabernet, Sangiovese and Syrah, Pinot Noir is a versatile red that doesn’t quickly overpower food. Pinots are paler in color than many other reds and often lower in viscosity. Tasting notes include red berries, mushroom and vanilla.

Pair your glass of Pinot Noir with milder dishes this winter. The Roast Cod Filet, Grilled Salmon and Roast Beet Salad are all matches made in heaven for this wine. A local favorite at the Fish Camp is a glass of crisp Pinot and our Roasted Beet Salad with pecans, pears, Georgia blue cheese, baby spinach and honey sherry vinaigrette.

An Interesting Zinfandel

Zinfandel is less popular than the first two on our last, but packs a unique punch you don’t want to miss. The interesting flavor profile features macerated berries, licorice and sometimes tobacco. It’s an exciting winter wine choice that plays well with so many seasonal entrees.

Living near the water in Julington Creek, we enjoy pairing a smooth glass with grilled meat. The smooth flavors of Zinfandel make it the perfect accompaniment to our Grilled Pork Chop or Top Sirloin Steak.
