The only thing on our minds on May 5th each year is tequila! We’re sure you’d agree with us on that one. Jacksonville is notorious for fun parties to celebrate Mexico’s victory, including the festive cocktail lineup at Julington Creek Fish Camp. Whether you throw a fiesta at your casa or head out with your friends, here are our favorite cocktails to get the party started.
Hot Mama
That’s Madre Caliente on Cinco de Mayo! This cocktail is a guest favorite over at the Fish Camps. You just can’t go wrong with fresh citrus and a little heat.
Ingredients:
1 Shot of Patron Tequila (Add an extra shot to make it a double, because why not?)
Jalapeno
Fresh Cilantro
Cucumber
Agave Nectar
Fresh Lime Juice
The proportions are top secret for these recipes but we’ll give you the Cliff Notes. Start by prepping ingredients two through four. Slice the jalapenos and cucumber, muddle the cilantro with the agave nectar and lime juice. Add all ingredients and some crushed ice in a glass. Stir.
Garnish with a slice of jalapeno, cucumber and lime.
Beach House Rita
We make a killer margarita that stacks up to any Mexican restaurant in the area. It’s all about top-quality ingredients and the right tequila.
Ingredients:
1 Shot of Gold Tequila
Splash of Cointreau
Agave Syrup
Fresh Lemon and Lime Juice
A simple list of ingredients executed perfectly is the trick. Combine all of the ingredients in a cocktail shaker. Give it a little taste test to make sure your concoction matches your taste preference. Strain over ice and garnish with a lime.
Mojito
The team behind the bar at Julington Creek Fish Camp keeps this recipe sealed — and for good reason. If you haven’t had a mojito at one of the Fish Camps before, you’re missing out on something unbelievable. We serve ours in a few different flavors — classic lime, mango or cucumber melon. Here’s a breakdown of classic lime twisted with tequila instead of white rum.
Ingredients:
2 Shots of Silver Tequila
Club Soda
Fresh Lime Juice
Sprigs of Mint
Sugar Cubes
Slices of Lime
Muddle the sugar cubes, two sprigs of mint and the tequila in the bottom of a glass. Add the lime slices and muddle a little more. Top with a splash of club soda and fresh lime juice. Garnish with a slice of lime and sprig of mint.
